The story centers on Lindi, a shy black teen, starting the first day of high school at the top of social ladder. She curated herself in THE RICHIES, a bunch of rich, spoiled white girls, the safest crew in the dangerous waters of high school. Lindi’s best black friend from middle school, HANNAH, moves back but has new bold black friends called THE DIVAS. Their leader, SHAMEKA, shuns Lindi as a coconut making rekindling her friendship with Hannah difficult.

We watch Lindi work through self-doubt and juggle her social status, try to win back Hannah while dodging Shameka’s fists (I was bullied for three years by THE DIVAS) and find a boyfriend. Lindi’s junior year gets even more complicated when her mother moves to South Africa. She puts on a brave face but Lindi’s repressed grief come out in rebellious acts at home. Her new fear of abandonment repels her friends and any romance potentials, when she gets too clingy and jealous.

Narrated by her older self, ADULT LINDI, gives the show a mature, brutally honest voice. It captures two vantage point of views: naive, young view of life growing up and her older and wiser recollections. Also: it will be full of fun 90s music, slang and fashion.

This humorous, witty, nostalgic time capsule isn’t all sunshine, it unpacks social issues with frankness: teenagehood, interracial friendships, bullying, identity, cultural family tensions, mental health, sex, relationship drama, and the realities of feeling like an outcast.

Ultimately, Lindi learns Coconut Confidential is about Lindi’s self-acceptance.
