An introverted black teen in a lily-white school is finally in the popular crew and stoked for high school - but things get complex when her former BFF has a new set of black friends that shun her as a coconut. She sets out to prove her blackness, win back her BFF, find a boyfriend and stay popular … no, duh, high school won’t be easy.

COCONUT n. a derogatory term for a black person implying like a coconut they’re brown on the outside but white on the inside. Someone that betrays their race or culture by conforming to white culture, a sell-out.

“The funny, bittersweet ode to my adolescence. It is Daria meets Never Have I Ever meets Pen15. Who would have known a coconut such a delicious, hydrating, immune-supporting nut would haunt my high school days.”
