ADULT LINDI

narrates the show which gives a mature, brutally honest voice in contrast to the naive, young view.

LINDI (15)

is insecure yet determined and naively optimist. She constantly makes mistakes because of her desperate attempts to get what she wants no matter how ridiculous… like rigging the Homecoming Court to get black queens on the court. Through the series, Lindi tries too hard, gives too much, envies others too much, worries too much what people think of her, and settles for bad romances all on her journey to accepting herself.

HANNAH (15)

is Lindi’s best friend from middle school. Näively excited about everything. She is very much like Lindi in her dumb choices, but she is simply oblivious. She strives to create harmony between Lindi and The Divas.

MELISSA (15)

Leader of THE RICHIES.
Materialistic.
Popular, mean girl, Lindi’s meal ticket. Her saving grace is animal activist, she loved because she’s rich and her dad’s a big shot music manager, free concert tickets. She considers Lindi lucky to be in her crew and she thrives off her own power but being popular, loves being able to gossip about everyone with no consequences but that means she hears all the gossip, even a nasty rumor about her. Everyone envies her but it’s lonely at the top.

SHAMEKA (15)

Leader of THE DIVAS.
Bitchy, logical smart one.
Lindi rubs her the wrong was so she appoints herself as Lindi’s full-time bully. After the third year of beating up Lindi, Hannah has a heart-to-heat with her and we learn where Shameka’s pain stems from. Of course, you have the boys.

KELLY (15)

is a RICHIE. In her own world but a dark horse. Positive. Eccentric. Unpredictable. Direct. When she walks in the room, you never know what will happen or what crazy idea she has. Kelly owns her curves and her sexual prowess; her view is high school is try different types to know what you want in college. When she sleeps with Melissa’s beau, Matt, it brings a shit storm of gossip and hate her way.

RYAN

is Lindi’s forever crush. Football player. Not the brightest but oh-so-charming. He likes Lindi, but “I could never bring you home to my Southern grandparents, they’d disown me.” He didn’t like the popularity that came with being a football player and goes through some soul-searching junior year.

LING
is A DIVA. Asian-Black. A Bombshell. Neurotic.
She oversteps her boundaries giving unwanted relationship advice. She nitpicks, controls, and analyzes everything. Lindi resents her because she is half-black and in in THE DIVAS, how does she get a pass?

KEITH
is Lindi’s gay but “straight in high school” best male friend.
A supportive listener. He pumps her with confidence.

MATT
is Melissa’s boyfriend and Ryan’s BFF. Football player. Gifted student.
He gets popularity brownie points for counseling and tutoring of "Special Needs" peers. When he tutors Kelly and theirs secret study/sex sessions are exposed. He is cancelled.

LINDI’S FAMILY:
Narcissist, independent mom
has a controlling influence on ALL her decisions down to what she wears. Many first generation fights her strict South African parenting cramps Lindi’s social life. When she leaves to South Africa, Lindi has more social freedom because her Dad’s a heavy sleeper, but her mom tries to control from afar with her frequent phone calls. Caring, peace-loving dad who was always a parrot of his wife. He taught girls to play tennis and they play almost every day, he keeps pressure on them to get tennis scholarships. He now stumbles with parenting because Lindi is defiant when her mom leaves. He can’t cook so it’s hamburgers and macaroni out the box. He has a temper when pushed which you see when Lindi rebels. She has a much younger, very annoying sister which makes it hard to connect and she moves to South Africa with their mom, and they become even more estranged.

LINDI’S LOVE INTERESTS: The senior basketball player who cheats on her teaches her how to pick herself back up after embarrassment because the whole school knew and she was the last to know, her ex from middle school that gets a new girlfriend teaches her how damn jealous she is and the ten-year older boyfriend, a working man, teaches her that she has a lot of growing up to do.
